Sankofa Solutions provides grounds management and preservation care for organizations responsible for sacred and historic property throughout the Charlotte region.

We are not a lawn service that also mows cemeteries. Cemetery and historic-site work is what we do, and it requires a different discipline: preservation-safe cleaning methods, hand tools near markers, knowledge of what a sunken row or an unmarked fieldstone means before a mower finds it. The damage done to historic burial grounds by well-meaning general maintenance is not reversible.

Why it matters?

Sankofa means it is not taboo to go back and fetch what you forgot. Across the Carolinas, historic burial grounds — particularly Black cemeteries — have been lost to time, deferred budgets, and neglect. When they go, the record of the people buried there goes with them.
